Re: Questions about my dad's .30-40 Krag

Thanks for the responses. I was just surprised that rifle with semi-permanent sights could be so far out of alignment. It wasn't just not "minute of deer", it wasn't even "minute of tree". The deer were safe when my dad was hunting. :D I didn't have enough ammo to try for any sort of grouping, but a...

Questions about my dad's .30-40 Krag

Hi guys: I was just browsing through this section and it brought up a couple of questions that I had about a .30-40 Krag that my dad had that has long since departed. I think that it was not a genuine carbine, but it had a short barrel (actual length unknown), and a short forearm, but it did sort of...

Re: 91/30 How strong is the spring?

   Ya, wait till you get those crazy safety caps on the pill bottles. I had to use my band saw to cut the top off. I just could not push down hard enough and still try to screw the stupid kid proof cap off. Then you got about 20 pills in a large bottle that can fit about 500. What a...

Re: Need to identify some 8x56 ammo

If it's Turk 1950 dated ammo, it is sure fire most of the time , sort of hot with a good kick in an 8mm Mauser rifle, and it is corrosive. Thanks for the reply. Yes, it appears to be Turkish. I remember from when I was active in the C&R community that guys reported that the Turk ammo was pretty hot...

Re: Need to identify some 8x56 ammo

Now you got your ammo listed in the Russian Mosin section> The Mosin uses a 7.62x 54R rimmed bottlenecked cartridge, not 8mm mauser...Be sure of what you have. If it is Turkish 8mm mauser it should have the Cresent moon and Star and look like similar to this :... Thanks for the reply. Yes, I wrote ...

Re: Need to identify some 8x56 ammo

Sounds like Turkish 8x57 Mauser ammo (7.92x57JS). It has a type S bullet (154gr) and is Berdan/Corrosive. Best in bolt guns as it may over gas semi auto rifles. Thanks for the reply. Yes, I had the wrong designation. I remember now, from about 20 years ago that guys were talking about the Turkish a...

Need to identify some 8x57 ammo

Hi: I have some 8x57 Mauser military ammo that I got several years ago that I would like to find out more about. The headstamps include 7.9 F.8 1950 T C. It is on stripper clips and is nonmagnetic (both case and bullet), spitzer and it in good condition. I have never fired any of it. I have been out...

91/30 How strong is the spring?

Hi guys. Because of health problems, I have not been able to do much with my 91/30's and am just now starting to get reacquainted with them. I know that I am not as strong as I used to be, but I have a lot of difficulty disassembling the bolt, even with gloves on. Using my cheap fish scale, I measur...
