Re: The FN Venezuelan Mauser

Great to see some life getting put into these fine old rifles. I got one of my Venny SAFN 49 rifles firing in semi-auto mode today using a 140 grain cast bullet! No leading in the barrel, ejection of the empties about 4 feet out and down on one 1 pile, and no damage to the casing! Now I have to test...

Re: 1891 Engineer carbine and Bayonet for it.

Once again: Here is the photo of one of my Engineer Carbines: http://www.fototime.com/8F975644D651525/standard.jpg Here is the caption for the carbine photo: Argentine Coat of arms on this carbine. Serial number A7632, this carbine was built in 1892 by Loewe, shipped to Argentina on August 10, 1893,...

Re: 1891 Engineer carbine

I had some time today so I thought I would try to post a link to one of my Engineer Carbines. Please read the caption that goes with the photo and you will also see what you can do with the book I just made reference to! Here is the link. Hope it works! http://www.fototime.com/AC59B10C3FB4799/standa...

Re: 1891 Engineer carbine

I know this is an older post, but I want to get the title of a book to you guys who might want to look at: "Argentine Mauser Rifles, 1871-1959" by Colin Webster, copyright 2003. It is the best book you can find on this rifle/carbine. Using this book, I can tell you the names of the ships and the dat...

Re: Uruguayan Dovitiis Mauser Carbine

As you note, Buffalo Arms Co. has the casings, CH4D has the dies. Bore diameter is .263" . I have a converted German Model 91 long rifle. I think I have photos of it and will look. I have tried jacketed slugs in it. Shoots those OK. I think it probably would make a tremendous cast bullet rifle. 1874...

Re: The FN Venezuelan Mauser

Is that a Model 24/30? I haven't seen one of those in years! If it is, it is highly desirable. Does it have import markings anywhere on the barrel near the muzzle? Probably does not as most were imported in the late 60"s early 70's.

Re: My Chilean 1895

Just another note to my post above. The bayonet is called the "Transvaal Model". Could not think of that as I wrote.

Re: My Chilean 1895

The bolt handles on the Boer "C" series Model 93 rifles were turned down! That is the dead give-away! They were ordered from the factory that way as the Boer horsemen carried those long guns slung on their backs! I have had a beauty and for years thought it was a sporterized bolt! I also have a Boer...

Venezuelan SAFN 49--firing pins

I have two very nice Venezuelan SAFN 49's, One is unfired and one is used in very nice condition. It seems that one versus two-piece firing pins is a concern with these rifles and I have done a lot of reading on the net just to see what the main concern is all about. The rifles were issued with a on...

Many years away...Now back!

Back again after some time off the forum. Immediate interest in the Belgian SAFN 49's, that I have finally taken a look at several years after I added them to the collection... Many other rifles to talk about, most any 19th century military, also 20th. Located east of Hayward, NW Wisconsin. Greg T "...
