Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Re: They Shall Not Grow Old

Forgot to mention that I watched about a third of the documentary last night, and will watch the rest of it within a day or two. The job they did colorizing old film and "smoothing" the motion is astounding. Some of it looks like it was shot yesterday. Kudos to Peter Jackson for keeping their memori...

Re: They Shall Not Grow Old

There is one poppy for every life lost during the war. Actually it's one poppy per thousand. That museum is actually on my list. Now to convince the Mrs to see it with me. When you go, after you've had enough of the museum have some barbecue at Fiorella's Jack Stack. It's just north of the railroad...

Re: They Shall Not Grow Old

Thanks for the heads-up on the movie. I've been wanting to see it.

Also, just a reminder, the USA WW I Museum is in Kansas City. If you are interested in the history of the Great War, and you are anywhere near KC be sure to check it out.

A brief shift in paradigm

I've lived in the Kansas City area all my life. The paradigm for local cuisine has been barbecue for as long as I can remember. If it's moving less than three miles per hour around here, it's at risk of being thrown in the smoker and slathered with sauce. Whether it's in a sandwich or just a plate o...

Finally found one

I've had a S&W 5906 for several years, but have never been able to find a holster I liked that fit the thing. Bought an Uncle Mikes polymer holster at first but I thought I was going to have to get out a saw to remove the pistol from it. Then I got a thumb snap nylon holster with a built-in mag pouc...

Re: The State of Our Hobby

I think another part of the problem is that not as many young people are taking up the hobby. Simple supply and demand economics. I was at an NRA Action Pistol event at my club a couple of weeks ago, and at least half the guys there were over 50 (I'm 72) and only one guy looked like he was under 40....

Re: Area 51 to be raided by civi's

"Due to the high cost of ammo, warning shots will no longer be fired."

I don't think it's actually going to happen. I think those snowflakes will stay in mommy's basement playing Call of Duty and GTA and talk about what heroes they were going to be.

Re: BAR opinions

Please don't think that I was suggesting the BAR was a bad weapon. It simply had a difficult time with the ash on Iwo Jima. I also suspect that an older, well worn BAR with a bit of slop in the action might have functioned better. In fact, another PCF in my dad's company earned the Medal of Honor wi...

Re: BAR opinions

The BAR didn't play well with the volcanic ash on Iwo Jima. Neither did the M1 Garand. Bolt action Arisakas had the advantage there. Hector I would be really interested in some details of this.. Many thanks for this... My dad was in the 3rd Marine Division, 9th Regiment, 2nd Battalion and landed on...

Re: California stocking up on ammunition

Sounds like you will now have to get drugs and ammo on the street corner- a new sales market for criminals    Maybe bullets will become a new form of cash on the street, like a sheet paper in the movie Waterworld?? I've been saying for some time that, in event of societal collapse...

I hope it's done well. The U.S. Navy pretty much crushed the Japanese to gain control of the Pacific. Big turning point in the war.

Re: JFK

I once heard it summed up like this, "We have the conspiracy theories because people cannot believe that someone as consequential as John F. Kennedy could be killed by someone as inconsequential as Lee Harvey Oswald." There was a documentary on The Discovery Channel a couple of years ago where they ...
