Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

I have been shooting my MAS 36 in one of the vintage military matches for the past few years. It is a very accurate little gun and with the open sights and shooting my hand loads has proven good to go all the way out to 1k yards. This year I decided to shoot it in the " sniper class" and see how that goes. The steel targets in the as issued open sight class are much larger than in the sniper so it will be interesting to see how well it does. In this particular match there is no requirement for the scope to be original or period correct so I could mount what ever I could manage on it. I did a lot of looking and found very few examples of the 36 having been scoped and if there was one issued that way I didn't find it. That doesn't mean that it was never done but all I found were one off special set ups here and there.
At any rate I did find that S/K makes a nice weaver style mount that simply replaces the rear sight assembly with no mods to the rife. Got it all together just in time for the weather to go to crap here so its going to be a while until I can get it out for a sight in and range test.

Appears to sit low enough to avoid having a cheek piece.

Ya, its ok and cheeks pretty well as is. The mount is set up to be off center just enough to clear the bolt and with medium weaver rings I got lucky and it all worked out. The match is shot off the bench for all but one course of fire that is standing off hand so there isn't a lot of moving from one position to another.

Neat set up! Perhaps we can add such a course at our local milsurp match.

Great idea!
The standard Mas 36 was never officially scoped, However fitting a male dovetail to the left side of the receiver of an accurate Mas 36 to pair it with an APX L 806 scope was easy task for an armorer and a good stopgap if there was no accurate FSA to use with an available scope.

I have seen pics of a French sniper rifle built on the M36.

I'd like to see those photos. Do you know what type of scope was used? Always wanted to scope my M36. I have an APX scope on my 49/56. Always wondered why I'd never seen this applied to the M36. Seems like a nice sniper setup.
