Storz, Dieter 2006 Rifle and Carbine 98: M98 Firearms of the German Army from 1898 to 1918., see Amberg Rifle Factory, pp.165 to 172.
This is a great book on the Gew 98.
see page 167, pre- war production figures M98 rifles 213,039 M98 carbines 44,362: total 254,391
see page 170, war time production figures M98 rifles & carbines produced is listed as 700,175 and another battle damaged 445,690 rifles and carbines repaired.

see this write up nice sources https://gewehr98.wordpress.com
