I heard it was to prevent accidental discharges, true or not i don't know, but a lot of bringback's have clipped firing pins for some reason. Whether it was to keep junior from shooting it, or for safety reasons we might not really know.

When I worked in the gunshop, we had several people bring in firearms that were their dad's or grandfather's collection to remove the firing pin or cut them down so the rifle wouldn't fire, due to dementia leading to rather unsafe situations.

I once saw a Carcano from Ww1 on GB that had a postage stamp on it mailed from Italy to the US in 1918 boy things have changed.

Was there any real rules about bringing stuff home I know in WW2 you could bring 2 things home during Vietnam you were to get permission from commaning officer.

The g98b is matching except the bolt and upper handguard, those are from a k98k. The stock is duffle cut.

The g98 is matching minus the bolt, and it is deeply engraved by hand on the bottom of the stock "John McMaster"

Neither have import marks.

Think of a g98b like a k98k only bigger.

Then there is a g98m that only had the rear sight updated.

The g98b has the sight, bolt, and stock updated.

It's buried in the safe, if you search for me on gunboards, you can find my original post about the rifle along with tons of detailed photos
