I was browsing Armslist tonight and found a standard '43 M91/30, but the receiver had been scrubbed of the arsenal marking as well as the soviet crest just leaving the serial number and date. It appears to have been refurbed at one point, and looks to be sitting in a war time stock. I was just more curious than anything, who did this and why? Is it rare or uncommon?

I have seen alot of wartime guns with very light stamps. Are you sure it is not just worn off?

Pictures would help a ton. There could be a ton of reasons for it being "scrubbed". Hard to tell without seeing pictures although if I recall correctly Soviet scrubbed rifles were supposed to be anonymous aid to a politically sensitive country. They sent Hungarian marked PUs to Vietnam, etc.

I am going way out on a limb here because what we are seeing is to inconclusive to make a definitive statement as to why this was done. Having said that...

Based on what I can see it looks like the scrubbing was done AFTER last arsenal refurb (since you dont see bluing over the obviously scrubbed areas). The importer stamp is PW Arms suggesting it has been imported in the last 5 years or so. I would guess whoever originally got it after PW brought it in to the country didn't like those Commie stamps (yes I've actually heard people say this in this day and age) and got rid of them. This is just my guess however and is not meant as a definitive statement.

That does look like a post-refurb alteration. I had a PU sniper that had the date on the barrel shank buffed off, but it looked nothing like that Armslist pic.

I can't say I've seen a scrubbed 91/30 either, so I was thinking it was probably done by someone over here as well.
