Hey Guys,

Forgive me if this is a Re-Hash, But I didn't have much luck searching.

Has anybody ever bought a Case/Crate of Mosin Rifles? they come 20 Rifles to a Crate, I'm curious if purchasing these would Red Flag me for an ATF audit. Something I'm not really chomping at the bit to do.

I'm not even sure what I'd do with all of them, But I just always thought it'd be neat to have a whole case of rifles, In fact I'd probably just leave them in the Cosmo and in the Case as a conversation piece...I know, I'm strange.

I think it's Royal Tiger selling them by the crate right now.

Thanks
TJ

one of the guys here bought a case of 20 just about 2 months back. posted pics as well. I am a dealer myself, and i doubt you'd raise any 'red flags'.
I wouldn't mind a case myself. put a glass top on it and have it as a coffee table.
i really wanted a case of consecutive m59/66's, but i didn't have the coin then. and prices have doubled since the 'old' days.
you can ry io, or classicarms.us , or aim, or even century...

I think at the very least the local ATF inspector is going to ask: What's this guy want 20 rifles all at the same time for? The glass topped coffee table answer would suffice. But remember, the ATF are a suspicious lot and they might want to check what else (guns) you have been buying. Would I do it? Yea, I think I would as a glass topped table or display.

Alternatively, you can do what I'm doing. Buy an empty crate and slowly fill it with prime examples. The extra $200-$300 is well worth have 20 worthwhile examples instead of 20 wartime models.

But what if you are NOT a dealer, but instead a ffl-03 holder. Might the ATF then wonder why you needed 20 Mosins, especially if you decided to sell of the 16 that didn't fit the collection?

Collecting firearms is not about "needing" anything. You want them to further the depths of your collection. They are, after all, old beat up bolt action rifles.

I would love it if an ATF agent ever asked my why I "needed" any of the guns that I have!!

Thanks Guys,

I just may have to bite the bullet here  , I like the Coffee table idea, not sure the Wife would though.

I hold an 03ffl that I'll probably let run out on renewal in another year, So this may be my last hurrah, I just didn't feel like opening myself up to an audit as it seems I'm too busy to even take time to sleep anymore. So the last thing I feel like doing is having Coffee with my Local ATF, But I guess whatever happens , happens, It's not like anything of us are trying to hide anything.

I'll try to post an update if I go for it.

Thanks Again,

TJB

of rifles to an 03 C&R.

Here's the post you were looking for.

I still have 18 of the rifles. I gave one to Bill for getting me intouck with Dan At Dan's Ammo where I got the guns.
There were three 1927 Tulas, I sold one to a friend. The rest I plan to keep for now.
ATF or anyone else has contacted me about the rifles or the other 200 and some odd guns I have.

Look at that. The value increased in one month.

I've yet to figure why some things sell for astronomical amounts and others that should go really cheap.
