As many of you know I have a soft spot for Mosin Nagants, more specifically ones of the M44 breed. So a while back I made a post about my M44 family, in this post I said that I was in need of an East German M44. We I received a PM from a fellow member that had a really nice M44 to offer me. It took me a few months but finally last week I was able to get the beautiful M44. It started out as a 1945 Izhevsk before it was issued to the DDR. I am really happy with this one and I cant wait to shoot it as I’m sure it will be a great shooter. This makes a total of 6 M44’s in my collection and as soon as the weather breaks I will take a family pic of them all together.

I can't believe that you are cooking that rifle without some Tony Chachere's.

I too have a izzy M44 with the DDR triangle 1 marking... And was refinished at karl suhl with a deep black finish that is nicer than the russian blue. What I wonder is about
The sling.... Did the DDR ever issue a blue/grey sling for them like the SKS and AK's used in thier service.

I actually have no idea about the proper sling, currently this has a regular sling on it.

I thought it was weird that they would make East German SKSs with the K98 style sling that mounts through the stock with a frog but didn't do that with the M44s.
