Screaming lion on Mosin bolt head!

#1 Post by FamilyFirearms » Thu Jul 13, 2017 8:26 pm

I picked up a bunch of Mosin bolts and parts to sell from a buddy of mine. When I was going through them sorting maker marks and other stuff, I noticed a strange mark I have never seen before. There is this mark on the bolt lug and what looks to be a YN on the other side. Any ideas?

If I am remembering correctly it's the Finnish commercial CIP proof mark.

ETA: Here's a posting with the marking in regards to ammo, referring to its use on Finnish ammo.

https://www.boards.ie/b/thread/2056072883/2

ETA: It is also referred to as the Riihimäki CIP proof mark. There is a discussion regarding this marking on the RMNF site.

Ok thanks! Just thought it was interesting but now it isn't anything special.

I agree with ffuries, it's still cool to see that mark!

If it were me, I'd keep it. No telling when you might need it for a project.

It's a commercial proof mark.

Since I have a bunch of extra bolts and boltheads, I will just keep it for prosperity for now.
