Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

1916 Remington M91 / SA marked restoration

#1 Post by Candyman » Sun Jun 18, 2017 12:44 pm

Back in 2010 a friend pointed me in the driection of a 1916 Remingtom M91 was up for tread. He knew that I had been looking for a deal on a Finn marked M91.
The stock had issues other then being sanded and pollyed. But all the metal was there.
I contacted the owner and it took a little time to work out a deal, but we both ended up happy.
Here is what I got.

Here's the crest on the barrel.

The SA stamp.

The bolt matches.

And here is the other issue the stock had. After it had been refinished with polly, someone cut the stock at the rear band.

The cut stock was not a surprise, I knew about all the stock issues before making the deal. The owner was having trouble getting rid of this desirable rifle due to the stock issue. Around this time M91 stocks were very hard to find and locating a correct stock would be even harder. It had taken me two years to find a stock for my last M91 restoration. But luck had been on my side a few months earlier, I had picked up a sweet Finn M91 stock for a song and needed a rifle to put in it.
Stock issues were not an issue.
