The stock that I have for my 1940 27 rifle has an inlet for a rear swivel.

I measured the oval inlet. Length is 1 3/8" while the depth of the inlet is about 1/8". The width is 11/16".

I want to fill that slot with a swivel. Which one should I use the swivel for a Yugo Mauser or the one for a Gew. 98?

Can't tell about its vintage other than it's laminated, it has a serial number in the barrel channel and it has a flat buttplate.

For the past week or so, it has received two light coats of BLO and shall try to use Tom's 1/3 mix on that tonight.

Hyperlink for the pix, #12 of 16 shows the inlet - http://picasaweb.google.com/Bertrand.Ma ... directlink

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

I think it would look better if you put a patch cut from a laminated stock to fill the defect. Contact Candyman over in the stock repair forum viewforum.php?f=83 to see if he can help you out.

Yeah, I actually thought about that but decided against that approach due to the one-off look of the stock.

In the barrel channel, I also found a bell-shaped cartouche to the right of the serial number.

Thanks!
