I found a rc k98 at a local store. Other than non matching parts, it has none of the usual rc stuff. No shellac, no electropencil, no pinging of swastikas, no stamping of serial number on stock. The stock is late war but the receiver and barrel is prewar. Some stamped and some milled parts. This is an enigma. Anyone any guesses on this

I've heard that not all RC K98s had the Swastikas peened off.

Anyone else can confirm?

What is he asking for it?

Did it have a X? Was it dipped blued? Import marked?

I've seen and own RC examples with some combinations of what you describe. One of my RCs even has it's original finish intact and no X on the barreled receiver.

Something to keep in mind is that EPs are easy to get rid of on most parts as is shellac. If stock numbers are shallowly stamped to where the wood fibers are not crushed they can also be removed. Most likely it is a RC that has been refinished by a previous owner or is not a RC at all, just a mismatched K98 of some flavor.

Most RC’s that were floating around the importers about 5-6 years ago had intact markings and roughly half were w/o the “x” mark.

It had NONE of the usual signs of being a rc. It retained the original finish no visible import marks, stock does not have shellac and not sanded. The parts are mismatched number wise a time wise. It was bought from Sog by dealer so it has to be a rc. It just baffles me why the Russians didn't do the usual on this one

I had an RC a few years back that didn't have electropencil marks, peened swastikas, nor an X mark that I bought from Samco - just the luck of the draw. It came without black paint also, but was shellacked. The first thing I did was remove the rapidly flaking shellac and re-BLO the stock. I sold it off several years ago. Maybe it was mine?
