Uruguayan Dovitiis Mauser Carbine

Post by bitrclngr »

I obtained a very beat up Uruguayan Mauser carbine recently. If you don't know what these are, forgotten weapons has a great video on them. Does anyone else here have one? Apparently the full length rifles are more commonly encountered. I'll try to take some pictures if I have time.

It's in 11 mm mauser?? Or is it 6.5 Daudeteau ? Reference library: https://www.libertytreecollectors.com/p ... oduct=4879

That is an odd ball. Never seen one at a show.

To old to fight and to old to run, a Jar head will just shoot and be done with you.

They a chambered in 6.5x53 Daudetau. An extinct cartridge that was originally developed for a French trials rifle. The Uruguayans are the only country to adopt this cartridge. Ammo hasn't been manufactured for over 100 years to my knowledge.

Interesting rifle, as only 10,000 1871 Mausers were converted, i would imagine not too many left lying around.
Good score

Buffalo makes some 6.5 Deaudetau, but it isn't cheap.

I have a Dovitiis Mauser, 6.5 and have shot it with ammo from Buffalo. Pretty good shooter. Did this conversion ever come with a shell extractor? Or, is that the cleaning rod's job? Also, by any chance, how can I locate a bolt stop ring? Anybody have more info on this rifle?

As you note, Buffalo Arms Co. has the casings, CH4D has the dies. Bore diameter is .263" . I have a converted German Model 91 long rifle. I think I have photos of it and will look. I have tried jacketed slugs in it. Shoots those OK. I think it probably would make a tremendous cast bullet rifle.
