Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Decent start to a collection????

#1 Post by Steve71100 » Wed Nov 28, 2018 11:19 am

I have a chance to buy these to begin my collection. They seem to be in good condition. I don’t know much about them and was hoping to get a bit of advice on them. I have seen them in person and there is no rust or putting on them at all but not knowing how important the stampings are I didn’t pay too much attention to them. I do know the savage m270 has a flaming bomb and 4**** on it as well as U S stamp. I can get the group for $2400. Seller claims the m1 garand and the m270 12 gauge are worth around 1500 each. Being new I don’t want to get screwed over on my first purchase. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

don't know about the shotgun or others, but depending on the manufacture of the M1 (WINCHESTER and INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER brings in more bucks) and the condition (muzzle wear throat erosion etc..) it just might be in that neighborhood of 1500 bucks, although the stock looks as if it was refinished, that would pretty much be a couple hundred dollar in he negative direction.

if it's a SPRINGFIELD or HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON, he's doubled his estimate of it.

you can buy a service grade SPRINGFIELD/HRA M1 for 750 bucks with free shipping from the CMP

http://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/rifle_sales/m1-garand/

you're going to have to supply more info on the rifles, manufaturer etc.... for anybody to give you a ballpark estimate.

I can tell you that m1 is not worth no 1500 bucks right off the bat. maybe 700 with the refinished stock. the 03 600 buck neighborhood, so you're looking at at 1300 bucks there.I serious doubt the other 2 would make the other 1200 bucks, but I could be wrong

If you wanted those 4 guns, you are spending 600 each for them.. I think the Garand is worth that, the 03 is worth that, the Jungle Carbine is close to high priced.. Depends really if you want to get all of those for your collection.. But I would not buy them as a deal unless you wanted each of those guns to begin with..

It is always difficult to be in your position. I know I have. THE NO5 Enfield should have matching serial numbers and a very good bore. It should also be an AUTHENTIC one, as many many have been faked. I may have missed it, but is the 03A3 either a Smith corona or a Remington make ? IF not, that too may. be a replica. The shotgun looks very good, and I would consult Bruce Canfields book on military shotguns. If the Garand is not a welded receiver, it is worth about 800.00. on the high end. Never be in a hurry, and you won't be sorry. Good luck and keep us in the loop
