Youu know the first down the tube and possibly the important one.
I have been working for some time to get all my rifles set for the first shot and most have settled in OK. I have a '41 that still messes with me a little but I'm happy with the progress with the others.

My first shot is usually off, but that's because all my rifles are cleaned and oiled after each use. so this time of year, all my deer rifles have had 2 or 3 down the tube, and then put up until after the season. am I assuming correctly that the first shot you mention, will be to put meat in the freezer?
Good luck, C

I have been working on six Enfield rifles to get them cold shot zeroed. One at a time they go out and have two rounds fired. Three of the six Enfields are done.

Is your hunting rifle an Enfield? Which one?

Ah, you are not just a rich man with a lot of pretty toys. That is some VERY nice shooting. I pride myself on always qualifying expert but No Way can I compete with that. Nice shooting, MJ.

I agree, the bore needs to be seasoned by several shots to have reliable consistency.

It's the package, rifle and the ammo. I do very little even at three or four hundred yards.

Any good shooter knows better than that. You put that same package in the hands of an inexperienced shooter and he/she probably won't hit paper at 200 or 300 meters. Has to do with sight picture, breath and body control, position, etc. The really good shooters can even time their shot between heart beats I am told. I could never do that.

Ref the picture; what, no flak jacket? God, I hated those early ones. about 20 plus pounds and hot. And the only real protection it provided was questionable flak from a hand grenade. Enemy rifle bullets would penetrate it. The newer one with the plate inserts are no doubt better protection but I bet they are just as heavy and hot.

Behind the seat in the truck, where else would it be?
Also I don't want to dissapoint you but it's the rifle and ammo.

Best shot I ever made was with the PRC10.

................... ...............

Careful scope alignment and proper set up of the turrets and pointer. Then I make a lot of notes, I note position and note the hold and position of the rifle. Then I shoot one shot. I never make adjustments from the fifth or sixth shot. Only on the first shot. I note the lay off of the follow up shots. This way I know the hold off for the first six shots. My cold bore shots are an hour apart or a day apart. I prepare my ammo in 50 and 100 round batches and number the boxes to the rifle. Little things like this and position and sight picture notes.

I also send people parts at no charge and wait to see how long it takes for them to say thank you MJ. LOL It's a karma thing the helps focus the anus on the meaning of life.
