The last sequence in Lighthorsemen when they charge the Turkish position--really great!

There is also a movie called "How Went the Day?" about the English Home Guard in early WWII. There are a number of Enfield Mark I#3s and at least one Pattern 14/17 (with a stripe around the butt-1917?). It was OK if you had 1 1/2 hr to kill.

Hey Max Armour,

Where abouts in the South Okanagan are you, and where is your museum. I'd like to take a look at some old guns. I'm in Kelowna

Look for "Dad's Army". Lots of P14 Enfields, a Lewis LMG, and a M1928 Thompson. And the captain's Webley revolver.

For a comedy series, the series is historically very accurate, and especially in the first few seasons where they don't have uniforms (only LDV armbands for Local Defence Volunteer), drill with broomsticks, and only have 1 gun in the entire platoon so they use whatever weapons they can find when on patrol. Later they are issued with uniforms and P14s, but have so little ammunition they have to use one of the unit member's black market connections to buy replacements.

The cast had mostly veterans of WW2, and one was a veteran of WW1 and had served in the Home Guard during WW2. With such a pool of talent available, the show is still very entertaining.

I know the bloke who was the Armorer for Gallipoli, Light Horseman and Breaker Morant - he supplied all the weapons for all films; I bought some nice bits and bobs from him and had chatted for many hours when last we met about the details in all the films. I handled the Hooked Quillion bayo that was used in Gallipoli ... it was the only one on set and was passed around for all the shots where a hooky was showing.

He told me a bunch of other funny details from the films that would surprise ...

Tiki.
