Been a while since I posted some pics of the week ... was going through my archive of scanned images from the library and realized this was one I never posted. I don't have the location and year details as I usually do for this one, will have to backtrack through my books to find it. It is basically British Para's ... two No4's and a Bren. At a guess, I reckon these boys have just jumped in over Holland ... Market Garden.

Enjoy! ( P.S - The middle Para appears to have a leather sling ... )

I love those broad smiles. The guy on the right has the knack of smiling while still holding his lips closed on his cigarette.

Is that snow on the ground? If so, I think it is a little too late in the year to be Market Garden.

It's a No.4(T). You can see the edge of the bracket.

Well spotted, you know I didn't even twig to the snow ... if you look at the toe of the boots you can see it is indeed snow. I'll have to have a dig now and see where they were ... absolutely right that it isn't Market Garden. I have so many pics of Brit Para's in and around Market Garden that I always automatically assume it is ... the hunt is on.

Any guesses from the members where they might be? Let's call it a friendly bet ... no stakes.

If I recall correctly they are Canadian paras from 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion. This photo was taken either in the latter stages of the Battle of the Bulge in January 1945, or later in Holland during February.

If they're Canadians, the discussion topic is either the finer points of hockey stick manufacturers , or "the weather sure is nice around here.."

You may well be right there ... another give away is their boots ... Brit para's stuck to the ankle boots and gators. Good call.

No, they are Denisons, I have one and the helmets are correct also ... the big button down map pockets at the front left and right are correct for Denison. Para helmets are unique ...
