I just took delivery on a Century VZ2008 from Classic arms for $587 shipped..quick once over shows the typical canted front sight(should be able to fix) we have come to expect from Century and the bore looks like a sewer pipe...I ran a few patches down the barrel and it cleaned up some, but still pretty dark(supposed to be new non-chromed line barrels?). I have one of the Czechpoint vz58s and it is a better rifle...I bought this because I wanted a beater I could play with and try different muzzle brakes...I will shoot this weekend....Wish me luck!

I know about the recall, and I have seen quite a few positives about them. You have "never" heard anything good about them, really?

Sadly no! I saw 4 at a dealer and on 3 the triggers would not work, also the receiver is by ORF and on many of the first there also were probs.
I am not trying to bad-mouth your gun, but fortunately i got 2 of the
D-Technik's last yr!
I do wish you only the best!
Just do not buy any Cent. Tantal's, even the Newest Fixed Batch starting with a Y Prefix do still have keyhole probs, that's about the 4th barrel and 3rd new twist!

I have seen the reports about the triggers not working, the problem is that the safety fire posistion is to the rear, but the safety will move to the front...I did the same thing, the rifle wouldnt fire..The Czech safety fire posistion is to the front..Anyway..I will shoot on Friday and if it is a POS I will be the first to admit it, but I doubt it will be that bad.

An officer I know has one of the Century Tantals, and it shoots just fine. Go figure.

As far as the safety issue goes, I replaced the safety lever in my VZ2008 with one from Czechpoint (the same part that goes into the CZ and Czechpoint rifles) and now it will fire in either the forward or the rear position, allowing either a lefty or a righty to flip the safety off comfortably. I had that same freak-out moment when I first received the rifle and it wouldn't fire, but it's simply due to their part design (which is arguably better for right-handed shooters, but definitely not for lefties).

Ran 40 rounds of S&B FMJ through both rifles....I set up a target at 50yds freehand and shot 9 out of the Century(thought it was 10) and 10 out of the Czech....Both rifles shot without any problems but the Czech out shot the Century...

Few Comments from another Forum, do expect a BATF Recall ASAP!

Rough looking compared to a Czech one. Nice smashola job on the lower handguard pin, no highlighting on the rear sight and, worst of all, it looks like it lacks the quarter moon cut at the rear of the mag well.

The major issue with the feedramp is the height of it. Some of the early ORF ones were too low. Also the original is radiused to aid in feeding.
It looks like the ramp is straight in the Century. Another observation is the sear spring. The atf specifically said in their clarification that the FA side of the sear spring must be removed in the semi rifles. Looks like the elves at Century missed this all to important requirement.

Buy the Czech one......I'm telling you, the difference in build quality is night and day. One is guaranteed quality every single time and one is a crap shoot.

Guy I have both...The finish on my century rifle is excellent, the handguard pin is perfect, and it has the cut for the sight...the markings are not highlighted, but so what...Plus, the internals and trigger are metal, not plastic. My Czech rifle actually has a poor finish on it..the paint is chipping off and there are several run marks...The front sight is pitted and they couldn't decide whether they wanted to paint it black or grey....Is the Czech built rifle better? probably, but from "my" actual use of the rifle I would say the Century guns are getting a bit of a bad rap...

Evidence of this claim??

I don't find it impossible to believe, but I also don't see how removing that leaf will make any difference one way or another.

Not to beat a dead horse here, but my understanding is that the receivers are manufactured by Caspian and a block is milled into the receiver rendering it impossible to use the auto spring only..BTW, I finally got the bore clean :)

Anyone know where I can get a US made gas piston?
