TT-33 crack

Post by Triumph6 »

So, today I was shooting my Romanian TT-33 and noticed a hairline crack on the slide just at the rear of the ejection port. I've fired several thousand rounds through this pistol, almost all reloads that are much lighter than commercial loads. I'm wondering how much of a concern this crack is, it looks to be about 3mm long. Trying to post a picture it's kind of hard to see. Thanks

cracks are never a good sign on a firearm, if it was mine I wouldn't take a chance of shooting it

course your mileage may vary

Yeah that's what I thought, I've seen cracks in some shot guns that aren't much of an issue but I don't think my safety glasses would do a good job stopping the back of the slide. I'll probably get another one to shoot( I really like it) and use this one for spares. The barrel wil make a good gauge for reloading. Really surprised to this failure on such a robust pistol.

Gee, I hate when a beloved gun starts to break ,,any chance of seeing what that crack looks like from the Inside.???. To be fair these things were not meant to last forever.. And you placed several thousand rounds through it. And it was surplused before you got it, how many rounds went though it before you...

OUch doing a quick look, some of those slides are pricey

Toss the slide and save the rest as parts and get another $250 T 33. Romanians are inexpensive and at most gun shows. Aim has them for $219. At least it was not an original Russian or Hungarian. Time to replace the old dog. Aim has grade 2 Romanian T33s at $179. Still an inexpensive pistol that shoots great , but ammo prices have gone nuts so most desire the 9mm Yugo Toks. Heck you might want to get 2 or 3 different years. Save on shipping & FFL transfer fees.

You ain't whistling dixie. Cheaper to buy a whole pistol. Plus you are saving your life.
You can actually take your current pistol apart and sell it for nearly enough to cover your replacement pistol
Agree on scrapping the slide. Don't want someone else getting it in their face.
You can get a magnafkux kit cheap and see how bad it is. Just to learn how.
The mosin crate had some really excellent1 romanian tokarevs up for sale today . Looked to be origiball blueing. And numbers matching.

I have a new one on the way from aim, 245 all in( shipping and tax). Really like that Russian slide, looks pretty cool, doubt I could find one for 90 bucks these days.

I second that on the Russian slide, that just has a nice look... Is it easier or harder to grab then the ones with the "normal" grasping grooves.. It seems the russian slide would be cheaper to make...

I never really noticed a difference as far as ease of ooeation.
I do prefer the looks of it though. It classic and easily recognizable.
