Excellent photography! Could you please edit this, so we know which crests mean what information right in the post. This is an excellent start!

Just signed up to post this. I just received my M57 from SOG, and this forum has been very helpful in figuring out what's what with this pistol. It's a "C" Pre-fix SN and I haven't seen this crest posted yet. Sorry for the poor quality of the photos; my camera stinks without natural light.

my source:
http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?p=731410

____________________________________________________________

Ok, so we have E-prefixes with 5 torch crests and F-prefixes with 6 torch crests, so the date sequence should be one of two ways (__ indicating "No Prefix" or "No Production"):

1957 __ __
1958 A- __
1959 B- A-
1960 C- B-
1961 D- C-
1962 E- D-
1963 F- E-
1964 G- F-
1965...

Now we just need an E-prefix with 6 torches or an F-prefix with 5 torches to nail it down. Perhaps someone should start a survey on these (# of torches, prefix, approximate SN).

if 'mupples' is correct, mine was made in 1964, it's a "G" series..
and your "C" was made in 1960-61.

p.s. I've posted this info before, and being lazy, just used copy and paste. but it's still usefull.

^ I saw that thread, maybe I'll post over there too. It looks like my C prefix has six torches, which it shouldn't according to the info available.

Before your link to this thread, I didn't even know there were different versions of the Yugo crest. Very nice thread indeed, please keep us updated.

I am not an expert on these eventhough it was my service piece back home...
In any case those flames on the crest represented six republics that were a part of the former Yugoslavia (Socialist Federal Repupublic of Yugo). And to my knowledge I've never seen this crest with only 5 flames, so it is definetelly interesting!?
It is also interesting to see a number of differnet crest designs...

P.S. One thing I'd like to warn everyone is NOT to carry this pistol loaded. If it falls on the cock it WILL fire! I'm not sure if the newly added safety will help any as mine did not have it, and it fired as it fell out of the holster on the hard wood floor...
