Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

K98 Project

#1 Post by Hylander » Sun Dec 08, 2019 1:36 am

So I have this K98 with a cut stock, no numbers matching, so it is already a FrankinMauser.
Bore is good, but I want a different caliber

So here is my plan:
I will be going 30-06 and scoping it.
Reason: I like the 06 and I already load for it.
Use: Cast Silhouette and Hunting

This Stock:

This Barrel:

This Mount:

I will be doing all the work myself apart from D&T the receiver, since I sold my jig.
And the front & rear sights, I will probably have Jack Huntington install those.
Of coarse I will have to hunt down all the hardware for the stock.
Yes, I will have way to much into this and I could just buy a new Rem 700, but I like old Milsurps,
and I like projects.

I have had good luck with the Lothar-Walther barrels. I have purchased two, and they shoot very accurately, and what was more surprising, is that they were already set for headspace (close on go-gauge, do not close on no-go gauge) when first torqued.
