Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

P 51 shot down my Uncle

#1 Post by 72 usmc » Mon Oct 21, 2019 9:18 pm

Here is P 51 44- 13314 . My uncle Art that got jumped by 15, Bf 109s on 18 August 1944 and got his butt lite up. He bailed out at Beauvais, France and was hid by a French Farm Family for a number of months in the attic. Talk about French guts, hiding a an American pilot in Nazi occupied France during WW II when you have a family with kids. Art Evaded capture until his location was overrun by US GIs. He became a Milwaukee cop. I got the letter from the little French kid that was 5 and kept my Uncle company in the attic. He was a great Uncle that helped me put siding on the house back in the 1980s. Him and my dad always had great stories. MARC 7940. A bygone age of hard core, depression age, Milwaukee street kids that all enlisted. Art is the tall guy, second row, second in from the right. After I got out of the Corps, I failed to ever ask how many he shot down. We always talked about police stuff. Then he was gone...

Great story! Thanks for sharing!

Yep, I found out from his son that he got 2 kills before he got shot down that day. 15 to 2 mustangs is some bad odds. He had balls, even as a cop he became a Lt.
