Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Spring/Summer 50 yard Milsurp Shoot.

#1 Post by AMraider » Sat May 05, 2018 10:23 pm

1. Only military surplus rifles may be used. Bolt action or semi-auto. The rifle must have been issued by a military somewhere on the planet. Generally this means anything that's a C&R or antique and is a military rifle.

2. Only iron/open sights may be used. Mojo/ghost ring sights and Smith Sights are okay but no scopes or other sights which require permanent modification to the rifle may be used.

3. All shooting must be done at 50 yards (or meters, if you have a metric range) from any position (prone, bench, sitting, offhand)

4.You may submit up to four targets a month. Does not have to be the same rifle.

5. Winner to be announced at the end of TBD.

Course of Fire:

Your record shots will consist of 10 shots at the target which should be printed on a sheet of 8.5"x11" white paper. For your printer settings, make sure that you "size to fit" the target to letter-size paper.

You only get ONE record target, so make sure your shots are good ones.

You may take an unlimited number of sighters at any target other than your record target.

Use the SRF Target 2014.

I thought I would start a new contest for the Spring/Summer.

Congratulations go to Cattus Borealis for the top score of 96 in the winter contest. If you wish to start your own 50 yard contest I will delete this one.

Well done by all who shot the in the last contest.

This was my first time out with a long awaited purchase of a Finnish 91/24. It is a really worn out rifle but I like that look. The stock is in need of repair and the bore is bad at best. Needless to say the score reflects the worn bore and crown and me conservatively using .308 bullets instead of .311. After shooting and removing much more crud it slugs at .310 and there is still more crud. The remainder of the 10 rounds I loaded, that missed the target, were similar to the perfect keyhole like the one and only scoring round.

Quick question for AM:

Can i use my BSA Australian Cadet Martini?

Outwardly it is in its original military configuration.

It has been converted to 32 Winchester Special. Wierd but it works.

How would you score 10 shots fired at only 50 yards , it would be a ragged hole with no way to tell just how many bullets went through it .

If you print the targets on card stock that helps. You could also use 2 targets with 5 rounds fired at each. I wish I could shoot that well.

I may be stepping on some toes, but I hope not.
If you want more targets posted, would you consider letting each of the four targets come from a different rifle?
That should increase the number of entries and/or postings.
I'm looking forward to dusting off some old timers.

PS: is a Spanish FR-8 eligible?
Thanks for your efforts!

I edited the rules to reflect that you do not have to use the same rifle. Thanks!

The FR-8 is eligible. One of my favorites.

Argentine 1909. It was a spur of the moment gunshow purchase that turned out to be a solid shooter.

I would like to shoot my Venezuelan heartbreaker in this match, if you'll allow it. (Read about it here: https://www.surplusrifleforum.com/viewt ... ?f=8&t=372 ). Now, I did have the Vene counterbored (as detailed in the thread referenced above), but it's out of the bedded stock and back into the original-ish Spanish stock it came in.

Maybe if you let me shoot it, I'll post a picture of the bore along with the target. That work?

Thanks for considering it; I'll watch for your reply.

Prof, You certainly have a love/hate relationship with that rifle, but you've never given up on it! See you soon.
