Thats for vipers which produce hemotoxins that attack the blood.

Other snakes (cobras, coral snakes etc.) produce neurotoxins that attack the nervous system.

Some snakes produce venom that attacks both blood and nerves.

Thats why I like em dead and made into wine. Turns the toxin into a tonic.

Having lived in Florida 3 times now (Homestead AFB, Tyndall AFB and having also worked out of Eglin AFB and Hurlburt Field) I've seen Rattle Snakes (Diamondbacks, Timbers, Pygmies), Water Moccasins, Copperheads, and Coral Snakes. Which are the 6 venomous snakes native to Florida. Plus tons of non-venomous varieties.

Having lived overseas and been deployed overseas I've seen a ton of other venomous varieties, enough that I try to steer clear of snakes as a matter of safety.

When we do get snakes in the yard we'll make an attempt to trap and relocate it, we only kill them if needed. Hard part is when we get juvenile snakes in the yard,, it makes it hard to tell venomous from non-venomous unless you get real close. Which brings up the question how close is too close? Hell right now we have about 5 or 6 juvenile water snakes living in the hole from our old Koi pond. Just waiting for the SIL to get motivated and get the dirt to fill the hole in.

Best way to catch a venomous snake in your house is to use nylons they strike them and get caught. My grandpa used to do that when they got in his house down in Kentucky. He always said they tasted very good ,but this is the same guy that ate coon yuck

Sorry about that. I couldn't resist. We have all 4 North American venomous species down here. I have killed cotton mouths and copperheads on my property. My neighbor killed a Coral Snake. I haven't seen any rattlers yet but I suspect they are around.

I have lots of water snakes in my pond. I had killed a snake once that ate some my baby chicks and my step daughter cooked it up for me (deep fried it). That was some good eating.

I don't have health insurance because I worked overseas but now that I'm back stateside I need to get that in case I get snake bit. I was picking up limbs the other day still cleaning up from Hurricane Harvey and one of the limbs took off running when I tried to grab it. It was a darn water snake about 5 feet long.

All is good OGG
But that pic and the story you told about it just gives me shivers
But all is good
I am here in N Georgia and snakes hide real good in the forest. Down the road from where I work, 2 Men almost stepped on a 6 foot rattler. But the snake had just eaten a squirrel and was fat and lazy. Then he was dead.
Not sure if I could eat snake but if hungry enough......

I've seen more rattlesnakes than I can count having lived in California and Idaho for most of my life. I did see a cobra in Afghanistan once and damn near shot it with my M9 but my buddy was able to talk me out of it.
