Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Legends Thompson M1A1 BB gun

#1 Post by 72 usmc » Tue Dec 31, 2019 12:34 pm

New for 2020, a LEGENDS Umarex Thompson M1A1 full auto BB gun :D
A 30 round stick magazine houses two 12 gram CO2 cartridges that provide enough power to sling steel BBs at up to 435 fps, as well as give an enjoyable recoil impulse thanks to the blowback action. The rifle can be operated in semi-auto or full-auto, sending a full magazine of BBs downrange in a matter of a few seconds.
Well known for producing some of the most enjoyable replica airguns on the market, Umarex brings yet another historically significant firearm to life in airgun form! Era correct faux wood furniture, sights, and sling mounts make the M1A1 a replica that even the most avid collectors will be impressed by!

For starters, the M1A1 Thompson replica looks perfect dimensionally; the safety, selector, and magazine release controls function. It’s realistically finished with the metal parts wearing what looks like a military grey Parkerizing and great looking walnut stocks. I was told the stocks were actually plastic; if this be the case, Umarex is using the most realistic looking plastic wood I’ve ever seen.

The M1A1 is made of zinc castings. It has some substantial heft, if not quite all of the genuine article’s 10 pounds. The 30-round stick magazine actually holds 30 .177 BBs and a pair of 12-ounce, non-threaded, CO2 canisters

THE TOP 5 WW II AIR GUN REPLICAS

THE TOP 5 FULL AUTO AIR GUNS #1 =MP 40
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMXIwkU1bWM

If you got 2 CO2 cartridges depending on the temperature, figure 160-200 BBs per 2 containers with an MP 40. It should be similar with the M1A1. So you buy the CO2 containers by a box of 40- on full auto it will eat & spit out CO2 cartridges. see the many reviews and magazine concerns that the MP 40 experienced. Most concerns are fixed with umarex CO2 cartridges, proper steel BBs at a correct amount in the magazine, and a penny or dime placed between the CO2 cartridges to ensure both puncture. See the many reviews about a similar Machine gun the Umarex MP 40:

Also the Springfield M1 carbine is a bad news bear- the magazines are faulty rendering the rifle a dog.

Update the M1A1 will have 30 round magazine capacity. The Mp 40 had 60, but it always jamed and it was best to fire the 60 round magazines with 40 -45 BBs so the gun functioned. Later, the improved magazine was reduced to a 52 round capacity with most saying load only 40 bbs to avoid jams in the MP 40.

So maybe the new magazines in the M1A1 Thompson have the bugs worked out. I suspect one will get approximately 4 magazines out of 2 CO2 cartridges at full auto and maybe one more at semi fire with a drastic drop in velocity near the end of the cartridges. :shhh: But those first four mags should be a hoot to shoot!

Here is a new video that shows the fake wood, seems nice like the Umarex Winchester' wood, ( viewtopic.php?f=52&t=3504 ) and it's a single stack magazine of 30 BBs so no jams like the off set, staggered, 60 BBs in the MP 40 early model machine gun. No early problems with the Thompson magazine like seen in the Springfield M1 carbine disaster- $200 for garbage. The mags were bad on the first load. They also redesigned the MP 40 mags on later models down to 52 rounds. This M1A1 Thompson sounds like a winner! Spare Thompson mags will set you back $50 a pop, more than an original mag  But the same price as the MP 40 mags.

Get one of these Kerr reproduction slings from " At the front" and what a nice package:
https://www.atthefront.com/WWII-Thompso ... swthps.htm

Add a 5 pocket Thompson pouch, although the BB mags may be too long to fit the original specification pouch ????? Will have to check this out> originals are approximately 6 1/2 inches long.

White markings generally found on the BB guns are held to a small size and very few are present on this thompson:

And like all Umarex BB replicas, they NEVER reproduce original stamped markings. Some Japanese makers do as molded into the metal "replica" markings on some air soft guns. Too bad something like this was not added:

Now does an original wood stock fit the BB gun ???

If one wants to preorder my favorite place to spend cash is PYRAMYDAIR Air with great warranty and customer service. $225 not bad.
