I have lost count on how many times I have been asked if you can get an SV98 in the US
You finally can. Its slightly Americanized. Has a weaver pic rail instead of the Russian pic rail. Its also brown instead of green. Guess they look to deadly in green lol
The one in green is the real deal in 7.62x54r and the brown one is in 338 Lapua
both do come with the carry handle its just not in that photo of the brown one.

I'd rather buy a couple SVTs and some ammo for that price.

Wow, that's more than the MSRP of a Barrett MRAD in .338 with Leupold glass or almost as much as an M82A1 in .50 BMG without glass.

Maybe I can find one used in a few years for under $6000. That's my limit.

I don't know if I would compare it to a M82A1 since that is an anti-materilas gun that isn't capable of maintaing sub MOA most of them can't do 2 MOA at 100yards. Remember its a semuato gun for anti materials not a sniper gun even through the media loves to use it like one in the movies.

The Barrett is abetter comparison however I don't hear much about it being a tack driver. It does have the flexibility of the SV-98 though.

The MSRP I can't even find anywhere. Who makes it?

It's made by Izhmash, though I don't see an MSRP on its website. However, the RWC Group link the OP posted has the MSRP of $8329.99.

I see what you mean now Ken.

The one on the Russian site though comes with a suppressor so it not exactly the civilian model.

In the future I might be interested in one of these. I may put a different stock on it though.

Geez! That's almost as much as it costs to get a Ruger 10/22 to shoot accurately.

Seriously, there are a lot of rifles that will shoot just as accurately for a lot less $$. If I had that much money, I would have GA Precision build a custom gun for me, put a U.S. Optics scope on it, and still have enough left over to re-barrel my old Winchester M 70.

Another option is a Savage 110 BA (the one in the aluminum chassis) in either .300 Win mag or .338 Lapua. I've fired that model in both. They are very accurate, and it's amazing how Savage has managed to tame the recoil on those two calibers. The .300 Win mag is like shooting a .223, and the .338 is about like my .308. One of those can be had, WITH a top of the line Schmidt and Bender scope, for under $7 G's.

Sorry. The tight-fisted accountant in me is showing. The SV98 does look cool and should be very accurate.

Hector
