Help with Prussian Musket.

Post by shoggoth80 »

So, I know it was a Potsdam musket. I got it at a rendezvous. I traded a project for a project. Lol.

It seems someone had cranked it into a Native styled trade gun. Barrel looks shortened. The guy I got it from claimed to have shot turkey with it.

I tore it all down, and started scrubbing. Steel wool and oil. The lock feels good. Positive snap, holds half cock. Functions. Pretty sure it's been converted to percussion lock. There's 1823 on the barrel, and Suhl 1843 under it. I'm guessing that's manufacture vs. conversion dates. The lock still has most of Potsdam on it, as well as G.F.

Tag said .69cal, but I thought they were in .75? I haven't mic'd the barrel yet. I'm still in process of scrubbing gunk off. I want to try and house it in a full stock with pins or bands. The two piece hodge podge it came with is ugly. Original/antique lock, side plate, screws, butt plate, trigger assembly/guard, barrel.

So... A bunch of googling tells me I've got what was a Potsdam 1809 Marine contract musket. .75 caliber.

NO EXPERT I had a few of these guns when collecting CW arms Not rare, but most seem well worn or altered In the VG range of condition
the big boy dealer seem to be getting 700.00 to 900.00 Parts can be tricky Well made and not the worst musket out there
