Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

They are asking $800. It's a pawn shop and I might be able to work them down 100 or so.

I'm not gung ho to drop that much cash without doing my homework, so I'm in no hurry.

Good info by Charles, also the stacking swivel screw looks to be ready to fall out. I would not be in a hurry on this one unless its about 600.00 bucks. Hsve you looked at cmp rifles? Does this rifle have the chalky gray finish, not crazy about that either.

I saw tgat screw after my post but felt i woukd be piling on. :)
600 - 650 if the bore checks out.
You can use the fact it is import marked as a negotation point.
But thst said you can get a decent one from thecmp.org for 750 shipped to your door.

Did I miss the price? Price is everything. I picked up my onliest Garand last year, Winchester receiver, SA barrel, and some Winny parts, $1100 bucks with 800 rounds on strippers. I was happy. PAX

Thank you all for talking me off of the ledge.

The CMP option puts it well into perspective.

Depending upon price, might be a very good rifle.

Gauges on the barrel will make a huge difference.

It's all been refinished, surely at least a couple of times.

Oh. When the barrel is changed (and I'd use a civilian one, preferably in .308!!) that big import mark goes away.

I bought a blue sky import rifle from a man in California several years ago, he said the bore was great. I could drop a thirty caliber project through it as the riflings were gone. He sent me back my money, at least he didn't mean to be a crook. I subsequently bought several from the CMP, definitely the way to go.

You know I read all this, I see the price of Garands keep going up. I.E.. Was just at a local show, had maybe 15 Garands in total all over 1k some going into the 2 k. All I can say is I am so glad I got the Garand monkey off my back years ago. Have a Springfield and a 308 tanker.. and I am set.. By the way OP, I thought I over paid for those when I got them.. time has shown I did not.

To the OP good luck, buy from a reputable reliable seller.. Pay more than you planned and get better then you wanted..

And to the Gods of Small Arms, please do not tempted me with any more Garands.. there are to many Mausers out there to deal with.

BARREL marks indicate one of the S. Korean Garands and carbines that came in in the 80's . I looked at 50 0f them and couldn't find a really usable bore, but that's my

luck. A lot of them needed springs and lots of TLC, but IIRC they were selling at . the PHX gunshows for about 180..00 . If you want to fire it, check headspace

There were/are good and bad Blue Sky imports. There are reports that the blue sky stamping was done so hard it compressed/damaged the barrels. Then some done with no damage. All this is second hand from various postings I've read over the years.
