Garand ammo anyone used this?

Post by sowbelle »

Has anyone tried this ammo in their M1?
I did not know this existed. How long has it been on the market?
I think I would still use a Schuster plug.
This is available at Cabellas for 25$ a box of twenty.

I have not tried this Federal ammo but all that is necessary for M1 use is to use a powder that has the right pressure curve to avoid overgassing or undergassing in order to function the action but not damage the op rod. The U.S. military used IMR 4895 in M2 ball cartridges. I would trust Federal on this round.

As an alternative, PRVI Partizan makes a M1 "optimized" round similar to Federal's M1 round but at half the price. Many people have used the PRVI stuff and report good functioning and decent accuracy. I load my own ammo for my M1 rifles so I don't have much experience using factory ammo of any kind but here's a link to the PRVI ammo:

I have loaded my own ammo for my M1s for years.

It is actually a decent load, used it years ago, they make one optimized for the m1a also. Has been around for several years
