Its a Nydar Model 47 Optical Shotgun Sight manufactured by the Swain Nelson Company of Glenview, Illinois. The 60mm lens is basically a reflector for the dot/circle reticle. Think of it as a a primitive holosight that didn't need batteries, just enough ambient light to be usable. It was developed using the same technology that the heads up display sights used in WWII in fighter planes. They enjoyed some success but were generally sneered at by the "proper" shotgunners of the day. Another piece of gun tech that was ahead of it's time.

No I have not tried it. It belonged to my father and as long as I can remember it has always been in that box. never on a gun.

So ever try one out? How'd it go? Sorry for the zombie, but I just learned of this for the first time recently and thought they were pretty cool.

Shotgun shooting associations banned them almost as soon as they were available because they increased scores so dramatically.
